How did I become an author…

Writing has always been something I loved, even in elementary school. My favorite class assignments were short stories or any sort of creative writing project. In high school, I started writing my first book. I later changed it from a young adult story to an adult shifter romance. Yes, I started my writing career with paranormal and sci-fi romances (and later deviated to contemporary romances under a different name).

I finished my first novel in 2008. My husband and a friend of mine both said if I’d taken the time to write it, I should have it published. I Googled publishers. Discovered most required an agent in order to submit a book. Looked up agents. The ones taking new clients had a long wait time, and you could only submit to one at a time in a lot of cases. I’m not a patient person. At all! So I kept digging…

I made a list of publishers with open submissions. All of them were newer ebook presses, but I thought it they were relatively new, maybe they’d take a chance on a brand new author. I received a few rejections until I got a nibble from a brand new press. So new they only had a few books out. They have since closed, but that first book contract gave me the courage to keep writing. Since 2008, I’ve had over 150 novels and novellas published, as well as a few short stories (spanning multiple pen names).

The moment Syl sees Brielle, he realizes the sassy Earth woman is exactly what he needs in his life.

Brielle has waited faithfully for her fiancé to return from Terran Prime, only to discover she’s been engaged to a lying, cheating bastard who tosses her out on her rear the moment he’s back on Earth. Not one to go down without a fight, Brielle will do anything to ensure her survival – even sign up for a bride exchange on another world.

Syl has lived his life in his lab, always preoccupied with his experiments. But the moment he sees Brielle, he realizes that perhaps his life has been missing something after all. Wanting and having are two different things. What would an exotic-looking female like Brielle want with an alien geek like him?

A knock sounded at the door, making her frown. She rose and went to answer it, more than a little surprised to see Ryoku and Kel on the other side.

“I thought I was clear that things were finished between us,” she said.

Kel held out a container of food. “You left without your dinner. We thought you might be hungry.” She accepted it grudgingly. “Thank you, but I meant what I said. Maybe we can be friends, but I won’t see the two of you romantically.”

Ryoku and Kel shared a look.

“What will it take to change your mind?” Kel asked.

“I don’t know that you can.” She shrugged. “Wait for the other brides to arrive and see if any of them appeal to you. You may find I’m not what you really want. Like I told you earlier, you don’t know me well enough to make the decision that you want me for a mate. We haven’t even known each other twenty-four hours. That’s just moving way too fast for me.”

A shadow fell across the door. “Problem?”

Brielle smiled at the one male she’d wanted to see for days. “Everything is fine, Syl. I believe these two were just leaving.”

Syl might not be a warrior, but his muscles bulged as he folded his arms over his chest and stared at Ryoku and Kel, obviously waiting on them to take their leave. She’d found him charming and possibly the nicest Terran she’d met, even nicer than Reyvor. Too bad he didn’t seem interested in her as a mate.
