Introducing Out-of-this-World Equality to Children’s Books

In this day and age, we are seeing the need to educate the next generation of children on important human values from a young age more than ever. With corruption, crime, and conflict being at the forefront of our television screens every evening; the world as a whole begs for the importance of morals and lessons being imparted on our kids through all they do for a chance at a brighter future.

When writing my new book ‘When the Sun Met the Moon’, I thought about the values I find most important in sharing with our youth. The first thing that came to mind was equality. The second – duty and service. The roles that both the Sun and Moon play to keep us alive and healthy daily should fill us with gratitude, if we were to personify them, they would speak of how they tirelessly fulfill their duties no matter what obstructions come their way.

Although neutral and gender non-conforming, the mystics and astrologists from all walks of life generally hail the Sun with strong, masculine energy and the Moon with a more delicate, feminine energy. The balance of these two beings brought together infers the same integration we see with the partnership of Yin and Yang. Two opposites acting as complete equals to get a job done.

This was the message I worked on portraying in the book. Allowing children from a young age to associate true love with being an equal partnership; two counterparts allowing each other to grow and evolve by being supportive and unrelenting with their loyalty. Telling a story with such beauty, yet speaking on such a neutral forum has been a zealous experience, and it fills me with pride and joy knowing that I could bring a slice of other-worldly equality to a love story as bright as the tale of the Sun and the Moon!

My Review

My Rating: 5 Stars
Consider liking my review on Goodreads.

I was granted complimentary access to When the Sun Met the Moon by Simran Mohinani as part of my participation in a blog tour for this title through iRead Book Tours. Thank you to all involved! My thoughts are my own and my review is honest.

When the Sun Met the Moon is a beautifully illustrated children’s storybook in rhyming verse that tells the story of how the sun needed a partner to help light the Earth’s sky at night and went out in search of a partner. It’s an adorable celestial love story, and a cute way for young children to imagine the relationship between sun and moon while they’re too young to comprehend astrophysics.

My three-year-old loved the pictures and the sound of the rhymes, so I think this is quite suitable for preschool-aged kids as a bedtime story.
