The Karanatos region is primarily inhabited by a race of green goblins that keep to themselves. For centuries the goblins have dwelled quietly inside mountains and underground colonies, ruled by their beloved queen, Igosalma. They live perfect lives, uninterrupted — until one day the flame of an old rivalry is rekindled when a hunting party is attacked by the green goblins’ supposed worst enemy: gray goblins. The queen and her most trusted associates must then decide how to retaliate: will they turn the other cheek, or will they engage their long-time foes in an all-out war?

My Review

My Rating: 5 Stars
Consider liking my review on Goodreads

Though brief, this little novella is packed with action and whole lot of food for thought. The region of Karanatos has been enjoyed in peace by the green goblins for a long time, but when a grey goblin turns up, the threat of war comes with her. It’s up to Gobi to convince the queen that perhaps this random grey is here to warn them of a mutual threat (humans) and not to assassinate the queen and rekindle an old war.

Gobi is the Samwise of his story. He’s loyal, brave, actually the brains of the outfit, and without him, the world would fall to ruin, but he’s humble. This book is certainly enjoyable by all, but this is exactly the sort of character growing minds need to be exposed to in their reading journeys because he has something to teach them. This book and Gobi’s outlook are all about looking past first impressions and old prejudices to see what people really stand for, judging them as individuals on their own merit, and accepting help from unexpected sources.

Audiobook narrator Tori Hight provided an excellent performance and I would absolutely not hesitate to pick up another title read by her. Her pacing is great, her expressiveness is entertaining, and I had no trouble following dialogue or tracking which characters we were engaging with.
