1. Crisp Fall Air: A book that felt fresh and new.
My answer: To Sleep in a Sea of Stars by Christopher Paolini. I won’t say too much about this one since I do have a blog and YouTube gush review scheduled for publication day, September 15th. Read that blog post here!
I was given the opportunity to review the audio ARC through NetGalley, and I sincerely rate it 5 stars. The story, the narrator’s performance, the overall experience, all perfect 5/5 stars! I normally don’t go and purchase books I reviewed as ARCs, but since this one was an audiobook and I really want it in print, I have pre-ordered a copy.

2. Howling Winds: An ending that blew you away.
My answer: Quantum Night by Robert J. Sawyer.
I already talked about this one in the Coffee Book Tag, but in summary, this is the story of scientists who are trying to change the whole world’s states of consciousness all at once to achieve the greatest good; to have the most fully aware and moral humans and the fewest psychopaths.
I don’t want to spoil the ending by talking about what blew me away, so let’s just say that not all of the characters we come across are who or what they appear to be, and this book threw curve balls I didn’t see coming right to the very end.

3. Comfy Sweaters: A book that gave you the warm and fuzzies.
My answer: Boy Queen by George Lester.

This is a drag queen’s coming of age story, and that’s not something I had ever read or even heard of before. 17 year old Robin Cooper didn’t get into any of the theatre schools he applied to, and he doesn’t know what he’s supposed to do with himself in his unexpected gap year. Then his friends take him to drag night at a semi-local gay bar for his birthday, and everything changes!

4. Bright Colours: A cover with either red, orange, or yellow.

I’m a member of the NetGalley Users Facebook group, and this is our first month doing a “read now” book club. Well, this title was a “read now” when we picked it, but we seem to have overwhelmed the publisher because now it’s by request.

5. Leaf Fight: A book with non-stop action.
My answer: Esme’s Gift by Elizabeth Foster.
A high middle grade / young adult fantasy novel about a teenage girl trying to save her mother from her own magic gone wrong might not be what comes to mind for most people when someone says “non-stop action,” but this book really was non-stop! I’ve already raved about it in my NetGalley YA Fantasy Round-up and the corresponding YouTube video, so I won’t re-hash it too much. Check out both books currently out in this trilogy and keep your eyes open for the third installment!

6. Pumpkin Spice: Your most anticipated read.
My answer: Legendborn by Tracy Deonn
This book wasn’t even on my radar until a few people I follow reviewed the ARC in the last couple of weeks. I thought it was already out and I had missed to boat, but to my surprise it’s not out until the 15th and my request for an ARC through NetGalley was approved!
(What’s so special about the 15th, anyway? I’ve got three NetGalley titles publishing that day and they’re all high profile.)
Bree is a teenage legendborn, awakened accidentally by a teenage merlin, and when her power comes to her, so does knowledge that there was more to her mother’s death than what the police told her. Together with Nick, another young legendborn, Bree aims to fight the merlins and unlock the deep dark secrets of society’s darker underside.
Legendborn is a modern twist on Arthurian lore with a strong black girl taking the helm. What’s not to love? I can’t wait to read this one!
