First things first. Thank you for having me as your guest on this tour stop for my latest novel, Son of Asmodeus – the first book in the Heaven and Hell series.

Let’s talk about villains in books today. I know many authors focus on their novels being all about the “good guy” and that’s great, but what about the villain? Who doesn’t love the villain? I feel like villains don’t get the kudos they deserve at times, and I’ve always wondered why that was. Don’t you? In my first trilogy of Blood Prophecy, my main character (MC) was the heroine. The queen of all the supernatural races, yadda yadda. But when I started the second trilogy of the series, I was so mesmerized by my villain that this trilogy was all about him.

Villains don’t get the recognition that they need at times. Think about it – they have to be cunning, devious at least. That requires some level of high intelligence, in my opinion. Depending on the book, villains tend to be easy on the eyes – so that’s another plus, right? I don’t see any downsides yet. Ha Ha! Do you like the villain more than the MC in your current book? Why? Did the author find a way to make you relate to the villain?

Here’s a funny little story. My son is now 17 and has always loved Star Wars. When he was smaller, I took him to Disney World and signed him up for the Jedi Training Academy experience. I was the mom, thinking, “This is so cool for my boy.” Little did I know that he had other plans when Darth Vader came out. My little Jedi ran to Darth Vader, knelt before him, and said, “Master!” He stood to defend Darth Vader against all the other little Jedis in Training.  Yeah, it was funny (and embarrassing when they asked whom the little boy belonged to), but it made me realize how much the villains don’t get the credit they deserve. In the end, Darth Vader spent time with him just listening to my son go on and on about how cool Darth Vader is, how strong and intelligent he has to be to create the Death Star and all. That’s when I stood there listening and taking in my son’s perspective of the villain. Since then, that little boy has always admired Darth Vader and has his room decked out for Darth Vader.

So, let’s think about the villain a little more when we pick up the next book or while you are reading your current one. They do deserve some credit, just like Darth Vader!

Excerpt

Sully was in disbelief. He’d heard of Asmodeus, one of the most powerful demons in the world, but did not realize that he was his father. Asmodeus was the king of all demons and if Edward, the child, is also his son, that truly made them brothers. Do they share the same mother? He realized he had more questions than before.

“Thanks, Malcolm. I don’t trust anybody usually, so that will serve me well. What will happen to me if I wear this ring? Demons already know how to find me. I don’t want to be their attraction magnet even more.”

Malcolm laughed. “Take this bowl. I’ll bring the plates. We will have time to talk more later. Wearing that ring will inform the demons who either serve Asmodeus or oppose him that you are his rightful heir. Those were my instructions from him. To tell you your father’s name.”

“I hate games.”
