First Contact – 3 Star Book Review

Posted on January 26, 2021 By Jenna No Comments on First Contact – 3 Star Book Review

I was granted complimentary access to a review copy of First Contact by Kat Green through Lola’s Blog Tours. Thank you to all involved in affording me this opportunity! This has not swayed my opinion. My thoughts are my own and my review is honest.

I was part of the blog tour for the third book in this series, Third Wheel, and I will be posting reviews for all three books. (Book Two, Book Three)

Sloane Osborne is a paranormal realtor in the business of selling haunted houses but, in truth, she’s only searching for one ghost. And her time is running out. It’s the 366th day after her fiancé’s death. Michael used to like putting things off for “a year and a day”—so tonight’s the night. Sloane will do anything to make contact with him before the clock strikes midnight. When she gets a call to check out a home in Waukesha, Wisconsin, it’s the last place she thinks Michael would contact her. Sloane is dead wrong.

My Review

My Rating: 3 Stars
Consider “liking” my review on Goodreads.

Sloane’s fiancé, notorious for putting things off “for a year and a day” died a year and a day ago, and Sloane is desperate to contact him one last time. That’s why she became a paranormal real estate agents, and the home she’s been called to tonight seems like the perfect place to meet with Michael. Perfect? Heck no. This meeting may be the end of her!

I enjoyed this book. I liked Sloane’s stubborn curiosity and I absolutely love anything paranormal, so the ghost hunting element is a huge win for me. With that said, did we need the huge info dump explaining all the equipment? A Ghost Hunters TV show level on-the-fly explanation of items in use would have been good enough for most readers, I think, and the dump at the beginning made it a little difficult to get into. Once we get into it, though, hold on! This place is Haunted with a capital H, and certainly not by Casper.

The romance element in this book is cute, too. I hope most readers will be receptive to the whole dead fiancé thing. Obviously, most fans of paranormal romance won’t bat an eye, but I think this book has a much wider appeal to fantasy and paranormal fiction lovers in general. I’ve seen the ghost lover things handled well outside of paranormal romance (and often even within paranormal romance) so rarely, so it’s nice to see. Readers who enjoyed that particular aspect of Falksen’s Ouroboros books (Varanus & Korbinian) might be drawn to this book.

About the Author

Kat Green is the alias of authors KAT de Falla and Rachel GREEN.

Rachel Green has always believed in ghosts but saw her first full body apparition while working at an old movie theater in college. When she met Kat de Falla at a writer’s workshop, she knew she’d met a kindred spirit – one who was also sensitive to the hereafter. And after bonding on a few ghost adventures, Kat Green was born.

Kat de Falla lived in a haunted house for too long. When things really heated up, she had several paranormal teams investigate, but things only got worse. When her mother suggested they contact a shaman, she agreed to come, saying she had been waiting for Kat’s call. The home was cleansed and sold. When she paired up with Rachel Green, the idea of co-writing a book with a paranormal real estate agent seemed perfect.

Fans of Ghost Adventures, The Dead Files, Ghosthunters, and the movie Ghost will love this series!
