A most thrilling and captivating tale for readers of all ages

Menarm was a great and prosperous kingdom, known throughout the lands for its friendly, hard-working people and fair trade. But a bitter struggle of succession between twin brothers left the kingdom devastated, the people divided. Some stayed with Fenil, who had conquered the crown, others followed Renil to the wild lands of the north, founding a new kingdom.

Now Adren, the last princess of the vanquished realm of Menarm, finds herself alone in a world where women live in the shadows of men. Not only must she battle her enemies, but also a truth that could obliterate her last hope for happiness and bring dishonor to all those whom she hold dear. On her quest, she finds unlikely allies in a powerful prince and a defiant mercenary, only to be devastated by an ancient and wily elf. Will Adren be able to survive this final assault?

The Elf and the Princess is a brilliant tale of high adventure, true love, and medieval-style warfare between elves, men, and orcs. Drawing inspiration from the myths and legends of Europe and from such writers as J.K. Rowling and J.R.R. Tolkien, Anna del C. Dye spins a completely original tale that will leave the reader wanting more.

Excerpt

Somewhere in the Serra Mountains, in a pitch-black cave, a set of light feet moved quietly toward a figure curled in a bedroll near the fire pit. A loud snore came from the knave that lay there.

“Good, he hasn’t heard me,” the shadow murmured.

One of the two short swords held by the shadow rose and fell with a mighty swing toward the sleeping figure. At the last moment, the sleeping figure turned over to his left shoulder, and the metal struck the stone around the fire pit, vibrating the would-be attacker’s arm to its shoulder. Sparks flew and rekindled the dry, leftover wood from the past night’s supper, and the renewed smell of burning wood arose. The sleeping figure didn’t blink awake, nor hear the fire crackle.

The new, soft light revealed a small, muscular assailant in dirty black pants and a shirt too big for its wearer. The sleeves became stretched as the wearer strained to strike again, showing a hint of the lean, yet muscular, arms. A small moment later, a loud slap echoed in the cave, as the sword connected with the sleeping figure’s rump, and he sent a fowl scream toward the night sky.

“I should kill you for that,” Donian screamed and turned the other way, covering his head with the pelt he used for warmth.

Two bedrolls could now be seen at either side of the fire. One belonged to Donian; the other lay empty at the moment. Its occupant stood swinging two swords skillfully, complete attention riveted on the figure in the neighboring bedroll.

“Come, you yellow-bellied mongrel,” came the cry. “Defend yourself.”

Donian’s soft snore told the sword wielder that the knave had paid no mind to her insult.

Put out by such disrespect, the small figure reached for the skin Donian used for his cover and pulled hard on it. In the same move, the small figure also kicked the warrior’s sword toward him, and the metal pommel hit Donian on his head.

“Now you’re going to get it.” In one quick twist Donian stood and faced his attacker, though the sudden movement caused him to totter on his feet.

The small warrior crossed the two swords and caught Donian’s swinging blade there. For a brief moment they stared. In a flash, the small warrior pushed the older warrior off balance with a foot, and he tottered backward. Only his shadow followed him to the floor.

On their visit to the vanquished Kingdom of Menarm the elfs face many uncertainties. However, they are strong in numbers and sure of their purpose. Zyrthal, the young elf strategist, is given the task of finding the kingdom’s hidden treasures; but instead the elfs encounter ruthless highwaymen.

Meanwhile, the two half-elf princes play among the ruins of Menarm to their hearts’ content while their parents attend to their work cleaning and repairing the houses around the castle, in an effort to revive the city. It is a hard job and they could run short on time.

In the midst of all this commotion the boys disappear from the dead kingdom. Brigands want riches and they will let the boys go if the city of Menarm gives up its treasures to them. They allow only one person to go to verify that the boys are alive and the elfs confide in the most harmless figure among them: The Menarm Princess. The outlaws have no clue as to the hidden shadow that will accompany her, the Silent Warrior.

Yet Adren’s warrior has been battling demons of his own and finds himself in great doubts concerning his performance as the champion of the last Princess of Menarm. These shadows in his heart double with the disappearance of the two half-elf princes and he harbors misgivings that he won’t succeed in rescuing the young boys and thwarting the mercenaries. The Silent Warrior fears that he has fallen from Adren’s graces forever.

Elfs in a Conquered Realm is the outstanding finale to The Silent Warrior Trilogy. Anna has answered all the open questions in the continuing saga of this beautiful race. A masterpiece of storytelling, The Silent Warrior Trilogy will leave you with a sense of peace, love, and great accomplishment and take you on a journey you will not soon forget.

Excerpt

“How’re you doing, Shahira,” he screeched softly, when Huntan saw her eyes flutter open. In silence, she pushed her torso from the ground with head hung low. She stayed like that for a long moment and then stood up shakily to walk toward the lake.

At the edge of the lake, she took one look at herself again and unloosed a pitiful howl before tearing at and discarding feathers as if they were poisonous beasts that would turn and bite her. Her eyes remained locked on the water’s surface that indifferently revealed the true Shahira.

She tore the clumps of feathers from her chest and hips, and hurled them away. She paused for a moment when her hands reached halfway to her head. Huntan waited, out of her way, but close enough to protect her if the need arose—even from herself.

Her trembling hands finally reached her face. She tore free the feathers in one swipe and then plunged into the deep, cold water of the lake.

After an agonizing moment, Huntan decided to go in after her. Just then, six eagles landed near his side so he drew his wings back, still in mid-flap.

“Where is she?” asked the older one, obscuring his view of the lake and Shahira. “Right there,” Huntan shrieked defiantly, and their eyes followed his to the edge of the calm lake and the pile of feathers.

“Good. Jarlyn took care of her.”
