I’m excited to introduce you to the hero of this story: Nate.

Every great story needs a hero, and in The Nephilim’s Fate, Nate takes on that role with strength, depth, and authenticity. As a Nephilim warrior, he possesses immense power, but it’s his heart and inner conflicts that make him a truly compelling character. Nate is more than just a protector—he is a man torn between duty and desire, tradition and rebellion. His journey through the novel is as much about discovering himself as it is about fighting the external forces threatening the world.

The Balance of Power and Vulnerability

Nate’s strength lies not only in his physical abilities as a Nephilim warrior but also in his deep emotional core. His broadsword and black wings, which are prominently featured on the book’s cover, symbolize his connection to the Nephilim legacy and his role as a guardian. But Nate is not just a battle-hardened warrior; he’s a character who experiences love, pain, doubt, and hope. His vulnerability, particularly when it comes to his feelings for Alissia, adds a layer of complexity to his character. He’s drawn to her in ways that challenge everything he believes in, and this inner conflict forms the heart of his development throughout the story.

One of the most significant challenges Nate faces is the ancient law that forbids Nephilim and witches from being together. Despite his feelings for Alissia, Nate knows that their love is impossible according to the ancient texts. However, his heart tells him otherwise, and the tension between duty and desire pushes him into uncharted emotional territory. His struggle to reconcile his loyalty to his people with his love for Alissia is what makes him such a captivating hero. It’s not just about saving the world—it’s about following his heart even when the odds are stacked against him.

The Inspiration Behind Nate’s Development

Nate’s character was inspired by the concept of the “reluctant hero”—someone who is powerful but burdened by responsibility, someone who must make hard choices that affect not only his own life but the lives of those he loves. I wanted to create a character who is not only physically capable but also emotionally nuanced. Nate is the kind of hero who doesn’t just fight battles with his sword; he fights battles within himself. He questions the rules, challenges the norms, and ultimately makes his own choices, even when those choices are difficult.

Another key aspect of Nate’s character is his role as a protector. He’s someone who will do whatever it takes to keep the people he loves safe, even if it means making sacrifices. This protective nature extends beyond his role as a warrior—it defines who he is at his core. But while he is committed to his duty, he’s not a blind follower. He has his own sense of morality and justice, which makes him a hero who is not only strong but also wise.

Why Nate Stands Out as a Hero

What makes Nate truly stand out as a hero is his genuine nature. He is not perfect, and he doesn’t always know the right answer. He makes mistakes, grapples with his emotions, and sometimes feels lost in a world where tradition weighs heavily on him. But despite these challenges, Nate always strives to do what’s right, not just for his people but also for himself and Alissia. His dedication to love, combined with his unwavering sense of responsibility, makes him a hero readers can root for.

In creating Nate, I wanted to offer readers a hero who is not only physically strong and handsome, but also emotionally layered—a man who loves deeply, fights bravely, and grows throughout the story. His journey is one of self-discovery and acceptance, and it’s this journey that makes him such a relatable and beloved character.

Nate is more than just a warrior. He is a hero in every sense of the word—genuine, flawed, and courageous. And as readers follow his story, they will see that being a hero isn’t just about wielding a sword; it’s about following your heart, no matter where it leads.

Excerpt

My heart stopped for a moment before resuming its work at double speed. I gulped. Now was the time for the truth. Seraphina stood up and walked to her desk; when she turned back, she held a photo in her hand. My heart was beating frantically as Seraphina held out the picture. I nearly didn’t take it. I suddenly wanted to live in ignorance, yet my body reacted before I could decide and took the photo. I looked at a woman who resembled me a great deal. She also had dark hair and green eyes, her nose was a bit longer than mine, and her lips were thinner. However, it was clear that she was my kin.

“Her name was Keira Shepard. Your father is still unknown; the coven thinks he was a human and unimportant to her. She never told anybody about him.”

Keira Shepard. A beautiful name that fitted her. I wanted to know everything about her, right now. “What do you know of her? Is her family an old witch family? Did she leave anything behind?”

“She was from an old family. To our knowledge, it had died with her until now. Her belongings went to the coven after her mother—your grandmother—died ten years ago. Her file states she could glimpse into the future. She was much into the second sight. If you want to, I can ask for the whole file, including the documentation about her going missing.”

“That would be splendid. Thank you.” I tried to say more, but my thoughts were spinning. I had the name and face of my birth mother and a thousand questions.
