My Review

My Rating: 5 Stars

Fantasy Coloring Book by Weblight Dreams is a beautiful collection of fun fantasy images to be coloured by art lovers and colourists of all ages. It features 25 full-page illustrations followed by grids of smaller thumbnail versions for planning and then space for testing your materials and planning your colour palettes. I love how this book is laid out!

Weblight Dreams has chosen the perfect balance of providing inspiring detail and not including too many intrusive lines. I love the fact that facial features are suggested but not fully blocked in, so the colourist can decide how full the lips are, how wide the nose is, etc. and blend everything seamlessly without unnecessary black lines in the way.

I chose to colour “Female Centaur Warrior” for this review, as shown below, using a limited colour palette and I’m happy with the result. I used only my Derwent Chromaflow pencils (only available in 12 and 24 sets at the time of this review and I did not use all 24 pencils) and a gold paint marker from Spectrum Noir.

I will say that the paper quality from Amazon printing is slightly limiting. I swatched several types of supplies before settling on making this review my test run of my Chromaflow pencils, and I really felt like pencil was the only viable medium for this paper given the level of detail and blending I wanted to achieve. For children and less perfection-seeking hobbyists, this may also be suitable for marker (alcohol and water-based,) and given how well it stood up to my last-minute decision to finish the border in the Spectrum Noir marker, I suspect acrylics and paint markers will work nicely as well.
