Excerpt
The city subway was sticky with the summer heat. The sweaty crush of people sucked all the life out of the air, leaving it stale and stifling. At least that was how Zee perceived it, as she swiped her card and found a seat on the 7th Avenue train. It was a thirty-five-minute trip to the New York Aquarium, where she was meeting Jack Bradley. They would walk from there to Luna Park–Zee chuckled over the name–on Coney Island.
Jack had offered to meet her at the 7th Avenue stop, but she had made some excuse. She didn’t want to be stuck on the subway with him if he turned out to be boring or annoying. He had been coming to The Jade Kat for a few weeks and trying to get Zee to go on a date with him. She turned him down the first few times, but he seemed so lovely and polite, she decided to give him a chance, with Amber’s urging and blessing.
“He is a hottie, and he seems nice,” Amber told her a few times. “He only comes in on nights you are dancing, and he ignores all of the other dancers. Give him a chance.”
About the Author
Annie is the author of the Tales of Origen series and several short stories. She lives in Kentucky with her husband and two fun-loving cats who inspired the feline characters Dirtbag and Scumbucket. She has an adult daughter who is also a writer, and a grandson. Her influences and favorite writers include:
