Excerpt

I barely make it to the bottom of the stairs before he is behind me. We head to the kitchen together. Tobin and Crux are there. “Can we invite Minka here?”

“Yes.”

“No!”

Trace and I disagree. I look at him and narrow my eyes.

“Yes!” I say again, this time emphatically.

“Absolutely not,” Trace reiterates.

Tobin and Crux are looking back and forth. “Well, which is it?” Tobin asks.

I yell over my shoulder for the girls and Lizzy, Lilah, Jonah, and Raiden show. “Tobin and Crux want to invite their girlfriend over, and I told them they can while the Grinch Who Wishes to be a Huge Cockblock says no. Anyone else want to chime in?”

Lizzy, Lilah and Jonah have no issue and are all for it. Raiden is for it, providing Harrison does a background check and vets her.

“Mom did a background check on her and her family when we asked if we could use our box at the symphony,” Crux says.

“You took her to the symphony?” Lizzy asks with her head canted to one side.

“You have box seats at the symphony?” Lilah asks at the same time.

“She plays violin,” Tobin supplies.

Crux smiles. “Mom says she’s good.”

“I’ll talk to mom.” Raiden pulls his phone out and heads to the other room.

Trace makes me breakfast which is oatmeal with honey and granola. By the time I’m done with it, Raiden is returning with a smile. “Minka can come over. She’s sixteen. No sex.”

Tobin sucks on his lips and then grins. “Too late. She’s not a virgin anymore.”

About the Author

Ali Lucia Sky is the author of The Powers That Be series. She lives in Southern California with her husband and a house full of kitty cats and a yard full of crows.

She loves laughing, drinking good coffee, vegan food, and supporting animal rescues.

When she isn’t writing or dreaming of new stories, she can be found planning her next vacation because traveling is life.

If you encounter her in the wild, don’t be offended if she should run away. She’s timid with strangers, but can be plied with shiny things and pictures of your cat or dog.

She’s a weirdo like that.
