To celebrate the novel’s upcoming release, I’m holding a character symbols tournament biweekly through to late September, right before book launch. Vote for your favourite character symbols in all of the sketch rounds, and the two most voted symbols from each round will go on to the revision round to become fully realized pieces of art.

Week of July 12: Competitors round 1 of 2
Week of July 26: Competitors round 2 of 2
Week of August 9: Leila, Naomi, and the Sisters
Week of August 23: Brontes and the Senators (note that I won’t be doing ALL of them)
Week of September 6: Misc. Palace Staff
Week of September 20: Top 10 designs revision round part 1 of 2
Week of September 27: Top 10 designs revision round part 2 of 2

Round 3: The Sisters

Leila, The Savior

Leila is our young Savior coming into power. The flower I picked for her is a lily, since that’s her favourite, it was her mother’s favourite, and it’s the symbol used on the cover for TSS. I’ve paired it with a crown, because she is the rightful next ruler of Thessen.

Naomi, Tobias’ Sister

Naomi is resilient, kind, and strong. Because of that, I’ve drawn a koi fish and some magnolia blossoms. While magnolias usually represent love and feminine beauty, and koi are often used to represent luck and good fortune, both also have strong symbolic ties to perseverance.

Delphi, Leila’s Sister

Delphi, short for Delphinium. She is Leila’s best and truest friend. She’s also the woman in the palace most likely to have slept with any other given woman in the palace. For her I’ve drawn a heart against a cluster of delphinium.

Cosima, Leila’s Sister

Fourth is Cosima, the redheaded beauty among Leila’s sisters who she chose to play her role in front of the competitors. Cosima let the role go to her head and wants real power, so she also gets a crown. For her flower, there was no other choice to be made besides a rose. She loves roses, and while playing the role of the Savior, she replaces all the palace’s white lilies with red roses.

Pippa, Leila’s Sister

Sweet, innocent, child-like Pippa. Leila calls Pippa her little duck, so a duck it must be for her symbol. Since Pippa is so sweet and innocent, a daisy felt like the perfect choice to pair with the duck.

Cast Your Votes Now!

Remember, the two symbols with the most votes from each round move on to the revision round, where I will create 10 fully realized pieces of art. Vote in this poll (you can come back and vote daily if you wish) and get more votes in by commenting on YouTube and visiting my posts for this round on my social media platforms.

Vote on YouTube | Instagram | Twitter | Facebook

Voting on all rounds closes at the end of the day on September 17, 2020, so that I have time to create the winning 10 pieces.
